"YOU ARE HUGE!"

Why, oh why does the weirdness in people come out when you are pregnant? I mean seriously, do people lose all control of their mouth and say the things you would NEVER say to a NON-preggo person? It's like trying to give double fudge brownies to someone on a diet! You just don't do it! R-E-S-P-E-C-T. COME ON PEOPLE!
I submit the answer is a resounding YES.
And I have examples. Keep in mind that I am 17 weeks pregnant right now. Happy as a lark. Barely gained any weight. (4 lbs in 4 months!) Clothes all still fit (for the most part, minus the
busting pants, but that is another blog for another time…) All things going well. Apparently that means people can say things like this:

A few weeks ago, somewhere in between week 13 and 14 of baby growing, I was at church. A lady that I know quite well (and love dearly!) turned around to me. After chit-chatting about the church service, how things are going, work, etc, she says with a circular motion “Your face…It looks fuller…But its OK! You are pregnant!”

Uh, ummm, uhhhhh, ooooookay…Thank you?!?!
Seriously at a loss for words. Still am really

And was the circular motion pointed directly around my face necessary? Ugh.
Does anyone EVER want to hear that their face looks fuller? No.

Should anyone EVER say that to ANYONE regardless of their child growing or lack there of?! Uh, No. Thankyouverymuchkindsir…

Secondly: (oh you thought that was it? No No No. I am not even halfway thru with pregnancy. Many more moments I am sure will arise.)

This past week while leaving church, I see a lady (what is it with the church ladies?!) I have gotten to know a bit over the past few months. Super sweet chick with great kiddos that are way fun to play with. While standing there talking she says “You look like you are carrying like it is a girl.” (circular motion pointed at the belly region...)

My exact words were AM I SHOWING??!! When did that happen?! The baby is like 5 ounces right now. I didn’t think I was 'carrying' anything, really, relatively speaking that is!”

(Oops. Should I have said all of that? WHAT IS WITH THE POINTING AND CIRCLES!?!?)
I am a firm believer that people just want their input on your pregnancy, which i am, for the most part, OK with. If you want to guess it is a girl, say “I THINK YOU ARE HAVING A GIRL!” Sheesh. So funny these folks. (And for the record, what is with the belly touching when there is no belly?!!? you are THAT close to my boobs people...)

It is kinda like telling someone who is 8 months pregnant that they are HUGE. Thank you?!!? That is so SWEET?!?! Oh really?!?! AM I HUGE?! AM I?!?!

Oh the joys.

(and that is my tangent for the day.)

so guesses?! Who thinks it is a boy? Who thinks a girl? Only 3 more weeks till we find out and i love the guessing!
I feel like i have been pregnant for 10 years...

Get used to it sister-it sucks but ppl butt in terribly and constantly!

I remember with my first pregnancy my own Aunt told me my face was fat. OK maybe she said 'full' but she might as well have said fat!

I can't believe you aren't really showing yet lucky! I have only gained 1 lb and I am 22 Weeks and even wearing baggy t-shirts you can see my bump! Then again I guess it is probably b/c I am on numero dos!

Anyway. I feel your pain :D

Jenna, you are cracking me up! I love your colorful words.

I would have to look at you to know whether I think you're having a boy or a girl. Ha! I'm teasing.

I'm a believer in the heart rate indicator. My son was 140 all the time, and my daughter was 160. Our kids were surprises, but the 160 was the one thing that made me think there might be some femininity about to grace my world full of boys (all nephews and a big brother). Sure enough!

and you are still early on.. I can't wait to hear the 8 month blogs..

Teddi said...

Nothing works to tell you the sex so don't listen to anyone. I had 4 girls (as you know) and carried them ALL different. High heart rate, low heart rate-down low, up high - it didn't matter. I once had a lady grab my chin and squeeze it. OK, get ready for this - if my chin indented with a line it was a girl because it stood for the v___a - if my chin did nothing, just stayed flat, it was a boy ( i have NO IDEA what that meant). She was 70 yr. old woman and she had NEVER been wrong - and she wasn't, I had Grant. So maybe try that 1--HA!! Wait till the comments if you have more then 2 kids - 3 is still acceptable but #4 and 5 for me were unacceptable to 75% of the population! I have heard it all! My favorite - do you know what to do to stop that (as they waved the hand motion over my stomach)!!

My personal prediction is you are gonna have a boy and Emily is going to have a girl and they will marry and live happily ever after - THE END

I have a personal crusade against the "guess how fat I am" baby shower game. Who is the genius that came up with THAT one?

Then again, I'm not a "sport" when people want to talk about my pregnancy or rub my belly or any of that. If they ask me how much weight I've gained I just look at them and say, "probably the same amount as you have".

I can be really mean when I'm pregnant....on the up side, there is absolutely no belly touching or weight discussion. =)

I had sort of the opposite problem. Pregnant with my first I had pre eclampsia and was on bed rest at home. One of the things we needed to report to the doctor was any swelling in my face. Everyday I asked my husband if my face was swollen and he said my face was beautiful (because I married a pretty smart dude...) When my mom came to visit, she was immediately concerned because 'my face was so huge'. In my case it was something I NEEDED to hear and the hubs was so afraid of the delicate emotional state of hormonal me that he couldn't tell me. He swears he couldn't even see it.

Funny! And too true ~ I had two predictions, but not belly rubs from strangers. First 'prediction:' it's a girl. Second 'prediction:' it's a boy. Needless to say, I was a bit puzzled until the baby actually came.

TuTu's Bliss said...

It sucks no matter what. I gained 50lbs but it just didn't show. People would say things like "nine months? Are you sure?" and my personal favorite "umm is the baby okay? Are you sure?" Yeah I trust the ultrasound, the doctor, my body and the scale registering 50lbs more than some stranger at the grocery store trying to cop a feel. And if the baby wasn't "okay" wouldn't that be like pouring salt in an open wound? Some people have no filter. It doesn't end once the baby is out but it is all worth it and you will find funny and amusing ways to deal with it. I liked to rub their tummy back. Every pregnant woman should try it at least once. The expression is priceless!

-I was huge and might be having twins.

All of the above were WRONG. Girl, baby never dropped and earned me and extra couple of hours of contractions to avoid a C-sec, and there's only 1 of her...I was measuring on the SMALL side.

It's not really the same thing, but I went blond for a while and there must have been something in my new look that cried , "Spill It" because that's what everyone did. your blog is hilarious. i feel your pain a little bit, even though i don't have kids- there has been a few occasions where people have thought i was pregnant... i was not happy.

Oh man this brings up memories! It's like your body stops belonging to you and becomes public property.

Hope you are having a great SITs day. Congratulations!!!

Your my first SITS blog to comment on! I haven't been pregnant yet, but I hear similar comments from my mommy friends. I really wonder how I'm going to be. Hmmm...

That was funny, the person who said that to me the most was my HUSBAND! Almost every day he would say, wow you are getting huge, you are twice as big as you were last time and all kinds of stuff like that. I think sometimes he needs a filter between the brain and the mouth.

It's amazing the liberties people take when you're pregnant.

Belated congrats on your SITS day!

I hate it when my hubby says: "Wow your boobs look BIG!" to me that means, are you gaining weight?

Happy SITS!

Wow, I think I have comment envy. And your post is hilarious. Happy SITs day to you!

Let me just say, I totally agree with your feelings. I hated when people would comment on my pregnant body. I think the worst was when my cousin came to visit me when I was 9 months pregnant... I opened the door and he said, "Oh my gosh! You are HUGE!" (just like you said in your post). I rolled my eyes and said, "Thanks" very sarcastically... Duh... of course I was huge! I was about to have a baby... But I really don't need to hear that I'm huge... Not nice to hear for any reason...

Great post. Hope all is well. Happy belated SITS day! :)

People are so audacious with their pregnant lady comments. It only gets worse when you have a baby then small child. You'll get dumb comments & "helpful hints" everywhere you go. Hey, at least you can blog about it!

Funny in My Mind said...

Yeah, it gets worse but in the end, you get a cute baby and then you really start carrying! Too bad they can't say, oh you are much fuller in the boob area, I would have loved THAT one. Congrats!!

I don't mind that sort of attention, really. Pregnancy is the only time where I feel I can waddle proudly.

Stopping by from SITS, albeit a little late!
