...it is what has brought us together

Three years ago today i woke up on the beach in Riviera Maya, Mexico...

...and married the man of my dreams. So grateful for every day with this great man and all of the wonderful memories that we have made and have yet to make. Here's to 3 times 50 more years!

freaking Cherry Dr. Pepper

So, last summer i was pregnant, right? It was hot. Literally. The temperature outside was stupid. The bottom of my feet would sweat. Ew. I was big. Duh. That is what happens. And i was not tan b/c of the latter. NOT cute.

What was hot was the new Cherry Dr Pepper situation they created. It stinkin' rocks and is sooo fizzy and full of awesomeness. It was like the best thing to summer and to growing a baby. Next to corn-dogs, dreamsicles, watermelon, lunchtime naps and any carb...

Anyhoo, so i love it and now that i am post baby, i limit myself to only one soft drink a week. I mean, YES they are empty calories like i have ever cared before, but they taste so good, and truly there is nothing like a fountain DP on Sundays. (don't ask me why, but it is like a must to post-church activities.) And a Cherry one? HOLY MOSES. Dr Pepper has finally done it. Found the way to my heart... (weird comment? yes...)

You get it? I LOVE it. Like a ridiculous amount. Cherry Dr Pepper freaking ROCKS. God Bless the doctor in Waco, TX that had a horse named Pepper and somehow contrived a tasty beverage out of that combination. (Again, weird? yes...)

That is how i feel about my husband. See what i did right there? I just think he is, like, awesome. How lucky am I that he saw my quirkiness and weirdness like 4 years ago and thought (deep, sexy man voice) "Hey, i would like to see how that quirkiness plays out for, say, the rest of our lives." Cool.

So as our anniversary QUICKLY approaches, (June 2. i said quick!) i am incredibly grateful. Here is where you come in...ready? Get ready to comment your little heart out. How do you tell that to your mate that?

"Thanks for choosing me when i am weird, stubborn, loud, needy, sometimes pimply but too old for that and hormonal, terrible at laundry and don't cook that much (the heart is willing but the flesh is weak!) and always sleepy! You rock! You knew some of that and decided to marry me anyway! Wow. I super-duper love you Matt!"

Seriously...I am one lucky chica.

Plus he is cute and we make adorable babies.

Grandmother

My Grandmother is a NATURAL and i love having her. My brother and i have always been close to her, both in proximity and in relationship with her and for that, i am grateful. NOTHING has changed now that she has her FIRST great-grandchild. Davis LOVES her and had so much fun hanging with her and cuddling with her while we were in TX last week.

Granddaddy

We spent the last week in Texas with my family to honor the life that my Granddaddy lived. After 82 years of living a life of giving to others, humility and giving honor to God, he went home to be with the Lord. Almost 20 years ago, Granddaddy had a kidney transplant and over the last few years he has fought to keep his body in working order. Our family always joked that he has fought death more than anyone we have ever met. What a great person he was and i am assured that he is in no more pain!

honestly, i have seen with my own two eyes the obvious-ness that i am a mother to a boy. Watch this video and you will see what i mean:

sad for my city

There is so much devastation in & around Nashville & Middle Tennessee right now from the 500 year flood that happened on May 1st & 2nd. People are out of their homes because they have been flooded out, they have lost their electricity, their communication, cars, their memories & keepsakes, their pets & some, their lives. National & historic landmarks are ruined, tainted & soaked. It is incredibly sad & i can honestly say that i have never seen anything like it, let alone be a part of it. In case folks don't grasp the severity of what's going on: Temporary shelters are at capacity, missing people are unaccounted for, many homes are under water, we're in a water conservation emergency, much of Nashville's economic base is threatened by flood damage, etc. We need help.

I think it was best said by a writer for the Nashville Predators:

"The national news coverage gave us 15 minutes, but went back to focusing on a failed car bomb and an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. While both are clearly important stories, was that any reason to ignore our story? It may not be as terror-sexy as a failed car bomb or as eco-sexy as an oil spill, but that’s no reason to be ignored. The Cumberland River crested at its highest level in over 80 years. Nashville had its highest rainfall totals since records began. People drowned. Billions of dollars in damage occurred. It is the single largest disaster to hit Middle Tennessee since the Civil War. And yet…no one knows about it."

More importantly, be praying for the citizens of Middle Tennessee, and all other affected areas for quick recovery.

we are buying grown up things

we bought a new couch on Thursday night and it was delivered on Saturday. YAY! We sold ours and bought one from American Signature Furniture that we have had our eyes on for 6 months. We had a GREAT couch that i swore we would never get rid of even when we got a bigger place, but alas, one cant have everything right? The couch beckoned us. Here the story: Price went down, it was the last one, floor model, old one was put on Craigslist, had a buyer, yada yada, WALLAH! New couch for the Cox’s.

Keep in mind that we are not the "animal print" kind of family, but that's just the price you pay for comfort and sometimes that price leads to recovering...(P.S. don't judge my messy coffee table. we had just finished rearranging...)

We are growing up… **tear**

Despite all the rain and flooding this weekend in Nashville, it made for a fun weekend of rearranging and testing out the new couch to see how nap worthy it was. Happy to report that it was a VEEEEERY good buy. That is the most important part in a new couch and top of our priority list:

1. Nap worthy
2. Comfort
3. Just how deep is this couch
4. Sleep worthy
5. Snuggability
6. How many people can fit on this thing at one time
7. Cost

See, lots of important things to consider...It meets all necessary criteria.

Other than our massive TV that we bought 3 years ago, this is probably our biggest purchase to-date as a married couple. We both lived alone as adults before meeting and had everything we needed to merge our life. While we have bought a bed, the cost doesn't compare. While we got brand spankin' new baby furniture, that was a gift...But a couch, ahhh, this was a hefty one. Literally. It was heavy. I know. I had to help move it. :)

Davis loves it too. Just hangin around in his underoos on it...
